In September, I'm challenging myself to complete my first short work of creative non-fiction, The Man and His Picture.

It's all in aid of Refugee Action and their annual Race for Refugees. But instead of racing, I'll be Writing for Refugees.

Inspired by a chance encounter with a man I've called Emil, whom I later photographed, the story explores loneliness, belonging, visibility and human connection. Meeting Emil reminded me that behind every label, headline and statistic is a person with a story. Too often, those stories go unheard.

That's why I'm raising money for Refugee Action. Everyone deserves safety, dignity and hope for the future, yet too many refugees arriving in the UK are met with hostility instead. Refugee Action provides life-changing support and campaigns for a society where people seeking sanctuary can thrive, not just survive. Every donation helps make that possible.
