The National Hospital Porters take on Ben Nevis

The National Brain Appeal Page is raising money for The National Brain Appeal

Hiking Ben Nevis · 16 May 2026

There are 14.7million people – that’s more than one in six – in the UK living with a neurological condition. Here at the country's leading neurological centre, we’re passionate about supporting the hospital to help improve the lives of patients through treatment and research.

Story

This May, five members of the incredible team of porters at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery are climbing Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK, to raise funds for The National Brain Appeal.

The National Brain Appeal is the charity supporting world-leading care at The National Hospital and trail-blazing research at The UCL Institute of Neurology.

Every day, we walk miles along hospital corridors, supporting patients, moving vital equipment, and helping the hospital run smoothly. Now, we’re swapping those corridors for steep mountain paths to support patients living with complex neurological conditions including brain tumours, stroke, dementia, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.

The funds we raise will help the Charity fund more pioneering treatments, enhanced facilities and innovative research at the hospital we love.

This challenge is no small feat. Climbing Ben Nevis demands endurance, teamwork and determination; the same qualities we bring to our roles every day. We’re excited to push ourselves even further for a cause that means so much to us.

If you can, please support us. Every donation, big or small, will help make a real difference to patients and families facing life-changing neurological conditions.
