Story
In January 2027, Bren and I will be joining an intrepid team of 45 to climb Kilimanjaro – the highest freestanding mountain in the world! The distance, height & altitude will be a huge challenge!
This will push us to our limits. There will be moments where we will be exhausted, where every step hurts and where we will wonder if we can keep going. But no matter how hard it gets, this is nothing in comparison to when a child is diagnosed with Leukaemia and their lives are changed without warning. Their "challenge" isn't something they signed up for - it's something they are forced to face, every single day, Hospital rooms instead of playgrounds. Treatments instead of normal childhoods. Fear, uncertainty and pain.. carried with a level of bravery that is almost impossible to comprehend.
Our close friends - Lucy and Matt Chatting's lives changed over night when their son Carter was diagnosed with Leukaemia at 4 years old & received treatment at Birmingham Children's Hospital (BCH) for 8 years.
During their own journey Lucy and Matt created the most amazing fund raising charity Carter the Brave (CTB). Thankfully Carter is now in remission but CTB's mission is to make this journey easier for other Carters. Over the last 10 years CTB has raised over £650,000!
Since 2016, CTB has made a huge impact, with highlights being 7 revolutionary GameStations, 1700 Amazon vouchers, £165,000 for Paediatric Cancer Research & Chemo CADD Pumps facilitating treatment at home. More recently, CTB has helped fund the new BCH entrance, the onsite Medicinema & bought the CT Intervention kit, which will lead to more successful tumour diagnoses.
All funds raised by our page will go directly to help the children of BCH. Thank you so much to everyone for supporting us in this EPIC challenge!
