Story
In July, we lost our dad, husband, son, brother, and friend, Dean, to cancer.
Dean fought until the very end. He wanted to live. He had an incredible zest for life and showed such strength through every battle he faced. No matter how hard things became, he always showed up for his family. That was just who he was.
Towards the end of Dean’s journey, he was cared for at the Beacon Centre at Musgrove Park Hospital. This was the only place throughout his cancer journey where we truly felt supported. The compassion, dignity, and care shown to Dean — and to all of us as a family — meant everything.
Because of the care he received, Dean was able to come home, where he passed away peacefully with his whole family by his bedside, listening to his beloved wife Tanya tell the story of their life together and how they first met. It was heartbreaking, but it was also filled with love, and we will always be grateful for that time.
To honour Dean’s life and legacy, his wife and children will be climbing **Ben Nevis**, the highest peak in Scotland. This challenge is not only a tribute to Dean’s strength and determination, but also a way to raise vital funds and awareness for the care that meant so much to our family.
We are raising money for **SURE**, an independent local charity with a simple but vital mission: to support the NHS in Taunton so that people across Somerset can access the very best cancer diagnosis and treatment, without having to travel miles to Bristol.
SURE is run by volunteers, and an incredible **99.5% of every pound raised goes directly towards making the Musgrove Park Beacon Centre a clinical centre of excellence**.
We hope that with more funding and research, fewer families will have to lose their loved ones prematurely to this awful illness. By supporting SURE, you are helping ensure that more people receive the care, support, and dignity that Dean did.
Thank you for helping us honour Dean’s life, strength, and legacy.
