Thornton Academy have organised a Christmas Cabaret Evening at Grangetown Community Hub Middlesbrough in aid of Dementia Action Teesside on Saturday 7th December 2024 and raised a fantastic £1800!! Our show Innovate at Middlesbrough Theatre on 7th & 8th June 2025 will also support this charity.

The Charity.....

Developing symptoms or receiving a diagnosis of dementia can be frightening and although life will change, being able to continue to do the things you enjoy will delay progression and help someone live well with dementia. Living well means different things to different people. Through understanding and support we can create dementia friendly communities where everyone feels included, valued and respected. This can help individuals with dementia to remain independent for longer, feel more confident in accessing their community and participate in activities that enrich their lives.

Dementia Action Teesside facilitate Dementia friendly music and dance based activities for those living with dementia and their carers and families. Being a dance school ourselves we know how powerful music and dance can be in its ability to evoke emotions and memories. Listening to familiar songs or participating in musical activities can bring joy, comfort, and nostalgia to individuals with dementia, enhancing their emotional well-being and helping to maintain cognitive function and slow the progression of dementia.

Their goal is to create a welcoming and supportive environment for those living with dementia, their families and caregivers.

We are looking for support from local and national businesses and hope that you can assist us by generously donating a prize, a bottle or voucher that we can use to fundraise at our event.
