We select students from across the world to unite people, nations and cultures

Story

Each year UWC Syria's National Committee nominates 8-12 students from Syria for full scholarships to attend of the UWC schools and colleges. However, the additional costs of those scholarships are formidable: the costs of visas, passports, flights, and laptops are significant barriers to accessing the life-changing opportunity of a UWC education. We are asking for your help to support the cohort our future cohort from Syria, so that these barriers do not become insurmountable. UWC International has pledged to match the first 1000 GBP if we can raise the funds by July 31, 2023.

What is the NC Challenge?

The challenge is intended to support the efforts of the NC and build our capacity for sustained fundraising. Our goal is to raise a minimum £1000 GBP, which will be matched by UWC International Office's NC Fund.

What will your donations support?

Our selected students students are awarded full scholarships of upwards of £40,000 GBP per year to attend UWC schools. But, these scholarships often do not cover the additional costs around visa and passport applications. Unfortunately, Syrian students encounter numerous obstacles throughout their journey to their UWC school. From immensely expensive visa applications, to having to travel to other countries to apply for visa, to obtain and translate documents, and to go through third countries countries in order to travel to their destinations. We are asking you to help us make sure that those obstacles do not stand on the way of our students' dreams. Help us make sure that a piece of paper does hinder the UWC mission and ur students' chance of experiencing it.

What is UWC?

United World Colleges is a movement of 18 international boarding schools around the world that teach the rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB). UWC’s mission is to make education a force to unite people, nations, and cultures, for peace and a sustainable future. At each UWC, around 200 students (16-19 years old) from all around the world live and study together in a residential campus. UWC students have meaningful conversations about changing our world; they learn about each other’s cultures, discover new hobbies and interests, and serve their local communities. Following UWC, students attend the world’s leading universities, many on full scholarships.

UWC has recently been nominated for the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts in making the world a more just and peaceful place.

Who is UWC Syria?

UWC Syria is the volunteer-run entity that selects exceptional students from Syria through rigorous selection and admissions activities and interviews. Since 2010, we have nominated over 120 Syrian students, including refugees, to the different UWC schools and awarded them with full scholarships.

Why support UWC Syria?

* The Syrian National Committee is 100% volunteer-run and doesn't rely on any funding

* Syrian scholars are often faced with additional challenges in obtaining their visa/ study permits, require additional travel, or government costs

* 90% of Syrians are living below the poverty line making it impossible for the families to cover any costs or expenses related to UWC education
