Story
We're raising money for Big Leaf at the Twilight Runway Challenge in September. H and I will complete the 10km loop on foot and on the bike.
Big Leaf started seven years ago with the aim of helping displaced young people, who were here alone, with family, to make friends, build connections and get the support they needed to build a meaningful life here.
Since then, we've grown from supporting just 12 young people to over 280 young people each year and demand for our services continues to grow.
We work with young people aged 15-25. These young people are brilliant, resilient, determined and have so much to offer their communities. But they need support to find their feet in their new lives - they need people who believe in them, who will help them navigate the long and complex asylum system and who care about them and above all, they need opportunities.
Big Leaf aims to provide all of this.
But we don't do it alone. We work in partnership with over 30 local organisations, businesses and statutory partners and with the support of an amazing team of volunteers without whom we couldn't do what we do.
But we also need funding... to keep the projects running and to meet the increase in demand.
Our projects include sports, creative arts, casework support, education, leadership programmes and residentials...
...and we know what a difference it makes.
Big Leaf gave me confidence and knowledge. I have made such good friends, like family. Big Leaf supported me and most importantly gave me courage to enter the world.” M
I'm participating in the Twilight Runway Challenge so that Big Leaf can continue growing its projects and reach more and more displaced young people. Please donate if you can.
