A Wee Run for a Very Big Reason ❤️
As some of you know, my amazing, brilliant, beautiful, completely one-in-a-million mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer three years ago. She’s somehow continued to face everything that’s been thrown at her with more strength, bravery and patter than I could ever put into words.
Then, in May this year, we got the devastating news that she had a brain tumour. The incredible neurosurgical team at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital were able to remove almost all of it, and we’re still in awe of what my mum calls her “superheroes”.
The Brain Tumour and Neurology teams at the Queen Elizabeth have been absolutely amazing, and this charity is now very, very close to my heart. The research, treatment and support they help fund genuinely changes lives - including my mum’s.
Disclaimer (lol).
The last time I ran a 5K was about five years ago, and I only discovered this challenge two weeks before it happens.
We love a wee challenge lol!!!!!
So, on the 24th of October, I’ll be puffin’ and pantin’ my way through a 5K - and I’ll be doing it for my Mum (who wouldn’t even walk 5K if there was a Primark at the end, and that’s really saying something).
As we speak, my Mum is in hospital, fighting her hardest to get through all of this. It’s been an absolutely insane time for my family, and having your whole world turned upside down by something like this is honestly indescribable.
She’s genuinely the bravest and most positive person I know. She deserves an island named after her, world peace and probably about 15 mansions. Unfortunately, all I have to offer are my two legs and this fundraiser, so that’ll have to do for now!!! (Sorry to get your hopes up there, Maureen.)
All I can hope to do by taking on this challenge is give a little something back to the people who support families like ours through times like this. If I can help even a tiny bit so that someone else feels a little less alone when their world has been turned upside down, then it’ll be more than worth the riddy of a 56 minute 5k.
If you can spare anything at all, I’d be so incredibly grateful. Every pound raised helps fund vital brain tumour research, information and support for people and families going through what we’re going through now.
Thank you for supporting me. It means so much to be able to contribute to a cause that does, and continues to do, such important and amazing work.
I love you Mum x
