The Miller's Dale Viaduct Abseil for Staffordshire Sight Loss Association

Wayne Pugh is raising money for Staffordshire Sight Loss Association
On the 25th July 2025 we will be taking on the highest abseil in Derbyshire, free-hanging 100 feet above a gorge to raise money for Staffordshire Sight Loss Association!

Story

Hi, I’m Wayne — and yes, I’ve officially lost the plot… because on Friday 25th July 2025 , I’ll be abseiling off the Miller’s Dale Viaduct ! 😅

I'm doing this daring (or daft?) challenge to raise money for a charity that’s incredibly close to my heart — Staffordshire Sight Loss Association .

For the last two years, I’ve proudly worked here as the Assistive Technology Coordinator , helping people with sight loss regain confidence using mobile phones, tablets, and other tech that can open the world back up. But before I started working here, I was one of the people we now support — I lost my sight 15 years ago, so I truly understand the life-changing impact the right help can have.

SSLA is a small local charity doing big things — from home visits to practical advice, emotional support, and community connection. But none of it happens without fundraising.

So on July 25th, I’ll be strapping in, stepping off a ledge, and putting my trust in a rope (and a very calm instructor!) — all to raise funds that help people living with sight loss across Staffordshire. A Quick Word from My Furry Motivators… 🐾 Vince says: “He’s clearly barking… but we’ll be at the bottom wagging proudly. And hoping someone brings snacks.”

🐾 Liberty adds: “I’d rather he didn’t risk the walkies hand, but hey — he’s doing it for a brilliant cause!” Whether you can spare £2 or £20, every donation will go straight into changing lives — giving people independence, confidence, and hope when they need it most.

Thanks so much for your support — and wish me luck!

🙏 Wayne
