Fire Fighters Charity offers specialist lifelong health & wellbeing support for the UK fire & rescue community, empowering individuals and families to achieve mental, physical and social wellbeing throughout their lives. This includes serving and retired firefighters, control and support teams.

Story

In 2023 Iain Hughes, a much respected and loved member of West Midlands Fire Service's Technical Rescue Unit, tragically lost his life whilst attempting to swim the English Channel to raise money for a number of charities, including the Firefighters Charity.

On 19th July 2025, a team of Iain's friends will be taking part in the Birmingham Triathlon completing each stage wearing fire service personal protective equipment (PPE). That will mean they will be doing:-

A 200m open water swim wearing a drysuit, boots and a personal floatation vest.

A 20km bike ride wearing USAR PPE, which are overalls designed for technical rescue incidents (bright orange and slightly lighter than fire kit!)

Then a 5km run wearing full fire kit (hot and heavy!)

Shouldn't be too hard as long as we get a nice cool day, in July!!!

All the money raise in this event will go to the Fire Fighters Charity, who help serving and retired firefighters, and their families, recover for injuries and illnesses, whether they be physical or mental.
