The Fire Fighters Charity offers specialist lifelong health & wellbeing support for the UK fire & rescue community, empowering individuals and families to achieve mental, physical and social wellbeing throughout their lives. This includes serving and retired firefighters, control and support teams.

Story

In 2023 Iain Hughes, a much respected and loved member of West Midlands Fire Service's Technical Rescue Unit, tragically lost his life whilst attempting to swim the English Channel to raise money for a number of charities, including the Fire Fighters Charity.

On the 16th and 17th May, friends and colleagues of Iain will be taking part in a 36 hour marathon swim at David Lloyds Club in Brierley Hill, where Iain used to train.

Swimmers will be setting off on the hour, every hour with the goal of swimming as many lengths as they can in one go. It doesn't matter how many or how fast, we just want everyone to join in and enjoy themselves doing something Iain was so passionate about.

All the money raise will collectively go funding a project at one of the charities 3 rehabilitation centres. These are used to help serving and retired firefighters, and their families, recover for injuries and illnesses, whether they be physical or mental. The project will be dedicated to Iain's memory.
