William's fundraiser for Cure EB

Run Cheltenham · 1 September 2024 ·
I will be taking part in a half marathon at "Run Cheltenham" on the 1st September to raise funds for Cure EB, a research-focused charity dedicated to finding effective treatments and a cure for all types of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).
My motivation for doing this is my three-year-old son, who was born with EB Simplex. EB is a genetic fragile skin disorder, which causes the skin to tear and blister at the slightest touch. It is a rare condition, affecting an estimated 5,000 people in the United Kingdom. So, before our son's birth, my wife and I had not heard of it, and were completely unaware of the pain and challenges that this condition brings him and other people with EB on a daily basis.
EB is progressive, debilitating, and very painful. In its most severe form, the damage EB causes to the skin resembles severe burns, and can eventually lead to skin cancer. There is currently no cure for EB; the treatments used aim to provide pain relief and prevent complications (e.g. infection).
Raising a child with EB is very challenging. There are days that our son says that he cannot walk as his "feet are sore", which can be very upsetting. But he is a warrior, and will not let it hold him back. Similarly, since the beginning of our EB journey, we have met some amazing and incredibly inspiring people living with the condition. I therefore, want to do something that can help make a difference to improve the quality of life for people living with EB.
As EB is a rare condition, it does not currently attract government funding. This means that every breakthrough and advancement relies solely on the generosity of individuals and companies. Your contribution will make a profound difference, directly fueling the mission to find effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure for EB. By supporting me and donating to Cure EB, you become an essential part of this journey, bringing hope and healing to those who need it most. Your compassion and generosity can change lives.
Please make a donation and show your support, and help to improve the lives of everyone with EB.
