My beautiful sister, Joanne sadly passed away on Sunday 5th July 2026 aged 50 years old.

She received her first kidney transplant on 23rd October 1998 from a 100% donor match at @nhsuhcw (previously walsgrave hospital ).

Then in 2001 she developed non hodgkins lymphoma, by 2003 she was cancer free thanks to Guys and St Thomas's hospital and Dr Paul Fields and Mr Majid Kazmi and the care of their teams.

Unfortunately in 2021 she contracted COVID which in turn damaged her transplanted kidney and meant peritenial dialysis for 2 years whilst waiting for a new transplant.

In December 2023 our fabulous mum, Lorna gave Joanne 1 of her kidneys in a live donor transplant at Churchill hospital in Oxford and Joanne had so much hope of many settled and relatively healthy years with her new kidney.

Unfortunately this wasn't the case and for various reasons she ended up back on dialysis in 2025 and having mums kidney removed earlier this year. She has been constantly in and out of hospital over the last 3 years, with her last hospital stay resulting in her contracting pneumonia and other complications and unfortunately her immunosuppressed and weakened body couldn't fight it off and she sadly passed away.

She faced all of her health issues with bravery, strength, her usual dry wit and a smile. We were so proud of her.

Joanne found kidney care uk helped her navigate through her dialysis and transplant over the last 5 years and was truly grateful for their help and support. She believed in their mission to help provide practical, financial and emotional support for kidney patients and their families and also campaigning to improve health and care services across the UK.
