Story
My Kilimanjaro Charity Challenge – Supporting Macmillan Cancer Support
In February 2027, I will take on the biggest physical and emotional challenge of my life: climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with my partner Donna. This incredible mountain rises to 5,895 metres (19,341 ft) — the highest free-standing mountain on Earth.
We are doing this to support Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity that has given hope, comfort and strength to countless families, including my own.
Cancer has deeply affected our lives:
• I have lost two uncles, one to bone cancer and one to prostate cancer.
• My father-in-law has been fighting multiple myeloma for more than six years.
• My mother recently lost her leg, yet continues to push forward with incredible courage.
Every one of these moments has inspired me to take on something extraordinary — something that can turn pain into purpose.
⛰️ The Challenge We Will Face on Kilimanjaro
🏔️ Height:
5,895 metres (19,341 ft) above sea level — where oxygen levels drop to nearly 50% of what your body is used to.
📅 Duration:
We will be on the mountain for 8–9 days, depending on the route, pushing through long trekking hours, freezing nights, and extreme altitude.
⚠️ Difficulty:
Kilimanjaro is a high-altitude endurance challenge, not a simple hike.
The final summit push starts at midnight, climbing in the dark for 6–8 hours in freezing temperatures and thin air.
💨 Acclimatisation:
To stay safe, we must follow the “climb high, sleep low” rule. This means ascending during the day, then dropping to a lower altitude to let our bodies adapt.
Even with this, trekkers face:headaches, shortness of breath, nausea, extreme fatigue.
Only two-thirds of climbers reach the summit — and we are determined to be among them.
Why We’re Doing It
This journey is more than a challenge.
It’s a tribute.
A promise.
A fight for those who are fighting.
I also want to become the first Amazon associate to stand on the summit of Kilimanjaro while raising funds for Macmillan — a moment of pride I will carry forever.
Your donation, no matter the size, will help Macmillan continue their incredible work supporting families through the toughest days of their lives.
Every step we take on that mountain will be for someone who needs hope.
Thank you so much for supporting us.
