Story

Our Kilimanjaro Charity Challenge – Macmillan Summit Mission 2027

In February 2027, we will take on the greatest physical and emotional challenge of our lives: climbing Mount Kilimanjaro — the world’s highest free-standing mountain at 5,895 metres (19,341 ft).

From the 11th–21st February, we will trek for 7 days, pushing through long, demanding hours, freezing temperatures, extreme altitude and thin air - all to raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity that has touched both of our lives in deeply personal ways.

This challenge is not simply about reaching the summit.

It’s about honouring the people we love, those we’ve lost, and those still fighting.

💚 Why We’re Doing This

Cancer has affected both of our families profoundly.

From Zoltán’s side:

He has lost two uncles — one to bone cancer and one to prostate cancer.

His mother recently faced the traumatic loss of her leg, yet continues to fight with incredible courage.

These experiences have fuelled Zoltán’s determination to turn hardship into purpose and to make history by becoming the first Amazon associate to stand on the summit of Kilimanjaro while fundraising for Macmillan.

From Donna’s side:

At 21, she was diagnosed with abnormal cervical cells and underwent three rounds of laser treatment over eight years.

Her Dad is currently receiving chemotherapy for a relapse of multiple myeloma.

A close friend has bravely overcome breast cancer and is now successfully in remission 🎉

These moments have shaped Donna’s commitment to supporting cancer research and care. She has previously taken on multiple marathons, Mighty Hikes, a Moonwalk marathon and even a sky dive, but this challenge feels more meaningful than ever before.

⛰️ What We’ll Face on Kilimanjaro

Kilimanjaro is not a simple hike — it’s a high-altitude endurance test.

Oxygen levels drop to nearly 50% at the summit.

The final push begins at midnight, climbing through darkness for 6–8 hours in freezing conditions.

We must follow the “climb high, sleep low” rule to stay safe, battling headaches, nausea, shortness of breath and extreme fatigue.

Only around two-thirds of climbers reach the summit.

But we are determined to be among them — together.

Every step we take will represent someone who has faced something far harder.

💚 Why Macmillan

Macmillan Cancer Support provides life-changing care to people living with cancer and their families — emotional, medical, financial and practical help during the most difficult times.

Every pound we raise will go directly toward supporting individuals and families when they need it most.

🩷Our Promise

This climb is a tribute.

A commitment.

A fight for those who cannot fight alone.

We’re climbing for parents, friends, families, survivors, and in memory of those no longer with us.

If you are able to donate, no matter how big or small, your support will help Macmillan continue their incredible work - and it will carry us step by step toward the summit.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting us on this journey.

Together, we climb. 💚🏔️
