Story

Thank you for visiting my sponsorship page.  I have been running at three events between May - October 2010 in support of the University Hospital of North Staffordshire Breast Care Trust Fund.  It would be fantastic if you could support me in my endeavour to run these three races:

     - the Market Drayton 10km race in Shropshire in May (target time 55m: actual time 51m:41s);

     - the Burnham Beeches Half-Marathon in Buckinghamshire in August (target 2h:00m: actual time 1h:59m:19s);

     - the Amsterdam Marathon in October (target 4h:30m, though I may adjust this to 5 hours!).

The three races are effectively a quarter-, a half-, then a full-marathon.  I have run three half-marathons before, but the full-marathon is unknown territory: a new challenge and one I need to build up to slowly.

I was particularly keen to raise funds for a Breast Cancer charity.  The reason?  A close friend, Fiona, was diagnosed last year and has now undertaken many months of chemo- and radiotherapy treatment.  This was a bombshell originally but Fi is now making a remarkable recovery to good health - her continued faith and positive attitude to life is an inspriation to all of us that know her.  I asked Fiona to select a worthy charity and she had no hesitation in naming the UHNS Breast Care Trust, who have been so amazing with her.  The Breast Cancer Care Unit's team provide fantastic assistance to women and their families who are sadly diagnosed with breast cancer, and they make a real difference in helping families cope, even in the face of terminal illness.  Their care and support reaches far beyond the professional treatment they provide.  Current initiatives include the establishment of a wig salon, a wig bank for recycling, and a beauty workshop.

Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the UHNS Charitable Fund, make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer, and then UHNS will direct the money to the Breast Care Trust Fund.

Please donate now - any money you donate will make a real difference to the lives of women and their families, in the face of such adversity.

With thanks

Paul
