Story

Without the clinic at Pensulo people in the village and surrounding area have to walk up to 8 miles to receive treatment. As a pregnant mother with no means of transport this is a frightening prospect. Recently in the village a child from Milo school died from malaria as his family could not afford to get him to the nearest clinic in Blantyre.

Over the last two years this huge project has been an awesome undertaking. In 2008 40 volunteers from the Royal Bank of Scotland built the main construction in just 8 weeks. Groups from Quest Overseas and Inspire Worldwide have added doctor and nursing housing and guardian shelters. The on going battle to get the clinic fed with water and electricity is now nearly over with the final herdle to fill it with the equipment it needs.

Lily Grace's Story

Three weeks ago Maria a young lady from Pensulo found herself desperately attempting to walk the 8 miles to the nearest clinic to give birth. On route she went into labour and was extremely lucky to be spotted by a passing policeman and driven to the clinic. It was just in time and just hours later she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Lily Grace.

This is a typical story for many to be mothers in Pensulo but unfortunately the outcome is normally very different. Most mothers are forced to give birth at home or worse outside with no medical assistance meaning many lose their babies.

From everyone at Joshua we thank you for supporting this appeal which means so much to the people of Pensulo.

Rachel Blackamore has sponsored an angle poise lamp costing £137.22.

The staff at the Royal Bank of Scotland have fundraised a massive £8000 for the development of the clinic and have since donated another £3,500!

Phoenix School in Malawi have raised 580,000 Malawian Kwacha (£3000)!

The One World Group donated £1000 to pay for 2 beds.

Another £1000 has been collected in donations from Malawi.
