Story
In April, our amazing, handsome Phil, a beloved dad and husband, died suddenly in a hotel, whilst on a business trip in Glasgow. After suffering with severe back pain on arrival, an ambulance was called out, found nothing of concern and didn’t take him to hospital.
When Phil went to his room, he died so quickly, he couldn’t call for help. He was 62.
Phil died of Aortic Dissection, a rare condition that effects only 3 in 100,000 and is often fatal when missed. It is extremely difficult to detect and treat and unfortunately paramedics, like the ones who were called out to Phil, are not trained to recognise the signs of Aortic Dissection.
It’s too late to save our Phil, but it’s now time to help medical professionals save many others.
It’s time to THINK AORTA.
Any money raised from this page will be donated into a special fund that will go directly towards Heart Research UK's work in the area of Aortic Dissection, including a Masterclass in Aortic Arch Surgery, which is a sub-specialism rarely encountered by the majority of cardiac surgeons.
Surgeons from all over the UK will be invited to attend this Masterclass where they will gain hands-on experience of total arch replacement, supervised by an expert faculty of both national and international repute.
You can read more about this on their website: https://heartresearch.org.uk
Heart Research UK are also supporting the ‘Think Aorta’ campaign which is centred on improving patient outcomes & ultimately saving lives, by funding the ‘Think Aorta’ poster campaign which involved distributing posters to medical professionals throughout the UK to raise awareness of aortic dissection.
