Story
Thursday September 2010, I am going to swim to Bestival on the Isle of Wight. I will SWIM a distance of around 4 miles across the Solent in order to get there. Wikipedia: The Solent..... The Solent is a major shipping route for passengers, freight and
military vessels. The Solent is renowned for its large volume of vessel usage, thus
resulting in one of the highest density of declared lifeboat stations in
the world. This includes six RNLI and five
independently run stations. The Solent is a comparatively shallow stretch of tidal water. It has an
unusual double tide that is both favourable to maritime activities as well as a hazard with
its strong tidal movements and quickly changing sea states. Seems like a sensible idea - lets go! I am embarking on this challenge to raise money for the Daisy Garland charity. This family run charity raises awareness of childhood epilepsy, fund specially trained dieticians and provide support for parents of children diagnosed with epilepsy. The charity has offered support to a close family friend and the donations will be greatly appreciated, please give generously.
Family-run national children’s charity, set up in memory of Daisy, providing support for children with drug-resistant epilepsy & their parents/carers. We fund ketogenic dietitians, a medically recognised way of treating drug resistant epilepsy, & provide grants for night-time breathing monitors.
