Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Next month we will be doing the Three Peaks Challenge, which involves climbing the three highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland, within 24 hours.
We're raising as much money as we can towards our Accor Charity Plan UK and this year the money we raise will go towards a fruit tree project in Kenya. We're fundraising for children in the Machakos district in who are suffering from malnutrition and poor access to clean water. The children of Machakos receive one government funded school meal a day, but fruit is not part of this diet and the children are missing the vital vitamins that fruit supplies, which can trigger serious growth and developmental problems. The FRUITS FOR CHILDREN project will plant fruit trees in eight schools, providing a steady stream of fruit to 4,000 children while also developing their knowledge of fruit farming, soil erosion and ensuring the children's available water is clean and safe to drink. As a result of this project the children of Machakos will be healthier and more empowered by having a new source of nutrition, and farming skills, which they can transfer to their home, community and future generations.
The money will buy fruit trees, which will be planted and which will teach the locals about eating healthily and looking after the trees, teaching them a much needed new skill.
