We are there when it matters to support people through dying or grief.

Story

Well we did it and barring some horrible feet we are all just about in one piece.  You can see the photos on www.christinaaspden.shutterfly.com

Despite overcoming an array of physical and mental hurdles between us we arrived at the finish as a team in buoyant if somewhat emotional spirits; as well as raising money for a very worthy cause we also dedicated our efforts in memory of James Carroll who was due to take part with us but recently lost his life in a tragic accident and who was in our thoughts often during the walk.

We learned a lot about each other and even more about ourselves and were humbled by the support we got from everyone around us.

We really appreciated the encouragement you gave us both from the sponsorship and good wishes before the event and from texts we got during the days to those of you who met us en route and at the finish and even walked some of the stages with us – it gave us a real boost when we were flagging.

However words are inadequate to describe the contribution that our support team made to our challenge.  Orchestrated by Jon Binns not only did they carry our spare provisions but essentially set up a rolling restaurant and recuperation facility from hot drinks at all the checkpoints to our evening meal by the river complete with chairs and napkins to the beers in the pub at our day 1 finish and then the most magnificent breakfast in Ribchester on Sunday morning when we all needed that extra boost.  They were with us throughout the walk and were as exhausted as us at the finish having taken the burden of everything but the walk itself from us, and even popped the celebratory bubbly for us at the end!  We know where you live for next time…

Just a reminder of who we are and what we did for those of you who have been out of the country for some time:

In support of Charity Challenge 2009 we took part in the Ribble Way Challenge a 100km trek (yes that would be 62.5 miles) in under 30 hours. The route started at Ribblehead viaduct and finished in .

We entered two teams but trained and walked as one - Plane Stupid were Nicola Machin John Heaton Alan Doyle Jeannette Medati and Chris Aspden and Plane Stupid Too were Carl Heaton Ben Bidwell and Paul Carroll. Our support team who fed watered and generally shouted encouragement and picked up the pieces were Diane Raymond Guy Campion Steve and James Medati Becky Carroll Jon and Lis Binns Debi Hacking Tracy Heaton and Shirley Rogers.

Thank you if you were able to sponsor us and remember that whatever you donated will be matched by BAE Systems and if you’re a UK taxpayer Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid plus a 3% supplement are added to your donation

Sue Ryder is here to make sure everyone approaching the end of their life or living with grief can get the support they need. There is no one size fits all when it comes to how we cope and the help we need, but with our support, no one has to face dying or grief alone. We are there when it matters.
