Story

Thank you for visiting our Just Giving Page.  Amy Lyne was born on 28 August 2009 when her due date was 1 December.  Despite her small size when she was born (just 1lb 10oz) her Mum & Dad, Rob & Sarah were very lucky and she was healthy. She just needed time in the Neonatal Unit at Southmead hospital, Bristol to grow and for her lungs to develop before being allowed home after 12 weeks and she is doing really well now.

One of the things that really helped Amy when she was getting stronger was the fact that her Mum was able to feed Amy with her own breast milk. Not all mum's who have babies in Amy's position are able to do that (stress, body shock etc make it impossible for some). Breast milk is hugely important to premature babies in providing the antibodies they need.

The PRECIOUS DROPS CAMPAIGN aims to raise £65,000 to set up a human milk bank at Southmead Hospital and keep it running and equipped. The milk bank will  will be based at Southmead's Maternity Unit in and will supply donor breast milk to babies in the Neonatal Intensive care units at Southmead and St Michael's  hospitals in Bristol. The milk will be collected from healthy screened mothers who have a plentiful supply, then tested and heat treated before being given to special care babies whose mothers cannot supply their own milk.

We have all decided to run the Bristol 10km to support this cause as a small thank you to the unit for how well they treated Amy during her stay. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
