Story

Update: 03/02/2010

A HUGE thanks to everyone who has donated to the cause and sponsored us for the fast tomorrow. We are overwhelmed, however not surprised at the generosity of people and the compassion of each individual for the Haiti suffering.

The target personally set was £2000, it is wonderful to think that in four days, we have already achieved this and the fast has yet to be undertaken! Because of matched funding (100%) and Gift Aid (28%), we have so far secured over £5000 for Haiti. Thank you all so very much.

We now believe that doubling the initial target is not impossible, and in so doing we would raise £10000 for the people of Haiti. Anything we raise is a bonus, so thank you once again tremedously.

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

The PwC Muslims members will be undertaking a sponsored fast on Thursday 04 February to help raise urgently needed funds for Haiti.

This is a great opportunity for us to raise much needed funds because of PwC promising to matchfund anything we raise. In addition, if you are a UK tax payer, an additional 28.2% will be added to the total sum. Therefore, a donation of £10 will raise a total of £25.64 for Haiti- two and a half times the original donation! By raising £2,000 we will have in fact raised a total of c£5,000 for the cause!

What: Fast for a day

When: Thursday 04 February 2010;

Who: Anyone can get involved;

Why: To raise funds for Haiti;

We are working alongside Islamic Relief who have already taken a leading role in providing aid work on the ground.

Islamic Relief set up the first camp site for approximately 100 families in Parc Saint Claire in Delmas, on a sports field. Each family has been provided a tent, kitchen and hygiene kits. One team member commented:
“The day was great, people were very happy and grateful to see promises from the international aid agencies finally materialising”

As well as the camp, the following activities have taken place:
      Food packs consisting of rice, beans, sugar and oil were distributed to 2,500 people
      Daily water deliveries to  the 40 water tanks that have been installed
      72 tonnes of aid has been shipped by Islamic Relief USA for Haiti. The shipment includes:
      Medical equipment, blankets, first aid kits
      Water filtration bottles
      Wheelchairs

Over the next few days, more tents will be erected to provide temporary shelter to hundreds of families.
This is how your donations can help:

      £25 will buy a family hygiene kit
      £75 will buy a water tank, supplying 100 people
      £100 will buy a food pack for a family for 1 week
      £300 will buy a family tent
