Reading Samaritans are one of about 200 Samaritans branches across the UK and Ireland. Together, we provide a service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing emotional support to people experiencing distress or despair, including thoughts that may lead to suicide. Our service is confidential: we dont judge and we dont give advice. We do listen and provide human contact for people, some of whom may be in very great distress. We can be contacted by phone, email but unfortunately we are unable to receive callers in person at our branch. All our work is carried out by volunteers, but we still have a building to maintain and bills to pay: it costs us around £100 per day to keep running, and we are entirely dependent on donations.
