Hi everyone.
As many of you will already know, last September, I in an apparent moment of madness decided to sign up for the 2009 London marathon. At the time it seemed like a pretty unrealistic goal as the furthest I had ever run was only a couple of miles. However, 5 months on and the training is starting to take effect. Much to my surprise I reached the half-way goal of 13.5 miles last weekend, and now that it seems as if I might just make it, I figured it was time to start raising some money as that is what this whole shananagon is really all about.
I signed up with a friend of mine, Anne-Marie and we were both fortunate enough to get a place through our chosen charity Leukaemia CARE. Many of you will appreciate the significance of this choice as you will know my brother Ollie's story. Ollie has battled with leukaemia on and off for many years and finally had a second bone marrow transplant 2 years ago following a relapse after 10 years of remission. It's been really tough for him, but the good news is that he is now doing well and is at Uni in Edinburgh studying engineering.
I can think of nothing better than having the chance to give back to a charity that offers support and guidance to families of those suffering from this disease. In order to run for this charity I have pledged to raise a minimum amount of £1,600 and any help you can give me to beat this goal is greatly appreciated.
The date of the marathon is 26th April 2009 so keep it in your diaries! We are going to need all the help we can get on the day itself so anyone who fancies coming into London to watch is more than welcome.
Thanks again for all your support.
