We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

Reg Dutson was a very good mate and an exceptionally talented advanced biker. He worked tirelessly to help other bikers try to get near his level of ability through his training methods.

He organised all manner of events for both the Institute of Advanced Motorists and RoSPA bike groups at a national level, and put many people through the respective advanced tests. He has the enviable accolade of being the only person we know of who has never had any test candidate acheive less than a RoSPA Gold level pass ! He also acheived all manner of acknowledgements regarding his acheivements including Observer of the year on several occasions.

He was so passionate about his biking that when his cancer took hold he even attended his chemotherapy sessions riding his bike, to the amazement of the medical staff.

Somehow Reg also found time to organise charity events for people less fortunate than himself. The most memorable for us was when he arranged a trip for visually impaired children to attend a local theme park. Not only did he organise their entry fees and lunch but he even used all of us bikers to take the children there.......on the backs of our motorcycles! The thought of their faces during that day still moves us to tears.

We cannot hope to match the heart of Reg but we have decided to honour his life and mark his passing with a special event.

A large group of hairy bikers, Birmingham Advanced Motorcyclists to be exact, led by my good lady wife (see photo inset), who is a biker but not of the hairy variety ! Are intending to go to the Isle of Man in Sept 2006. On the 27th we intend to leave our motorcycles alone and cycle around the world famous Isle of Man TT mountain course. All 37.75 miles of it to be exact. It's a sort of hare and grey hound event if you get my drift !

Regs' passing was a huge loss to us all and particularly those whom he trained. It will be very difficult for us to fill his shoes with someone as dedicated as Reg.

Apart from the obvious medical support we will need, we need your support to help us in assisting Cancer Research UK conquer this awful disease whilst keeping Regs' memory alive.

UPDATE !!!!!

All twelve of those who set off completed the course ! The weather was horrific over Snaefell peak ( no surprises there then! ) and the pain of the climb up both Glen Helen and out of Ramsey can only be experienced as words are insufficient to describe it. All the participants including the support teams have more than earned your support both morally and financially and we thank you wholeheartedly. Having completed the task we can say that there were some very prophetic words in the comments section of this page and at times I personally wished we'd listened to you. A full write up including photos will be in the Birmingham Advanced Motorcyclists magazine.

Please continue to pass on the word of this site as this is the hardest and proudest money we've ever worked for.
