Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We're taking part in the 2.6 Challenge to raise much needed funds for The Grand Appeal and Bristol Children's Hospital.  Claire & Emily are walking 2.6 miles per day across 10 days, Ian is running more miles per day (across far less days) as part of our daily exercise and staying safe.  We've started on 26th April and once completed we will have completed the equivalent number of miles to a marathon.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you for any support you can offer.

On Sunday 19th May, Daisy and Isaac will be completing their half marathon challenge on Plymouth Hoe. So far they have braved all the elements to both rack up 11 miles around the school track, after school and over weekends.

Daisy and Isaac have been running and are hoping to raise money in Callum St John’s memory, a little boy who died age 4 from an extremely aggressive and fast growing lymphoma which caused a cardiac arrest. Despite the efforts of all the doctors and nurses Callum sadly passed away.

In Callum's memory Daisy and Isaac have decided to try and do something positive and raise money for The Grand Appeal, supporting Bristol Royal Children's Hospital who tried so hard to save Callum's life. Callum was initially treated at Derriford Hospital, in Plymouth but was soon transferred to Bristol Children's Hospital.

The work that Bristol Children's Hospital do is fantastic and they need as much money as possible to treat the children that so desperately need their help and provide accommodation for their families.
If you can donate anything at all in Callum's memory, you will be helping a little boy or girl and their family to receive the help they need.

Rob and I have been friends for over 25 years since studying together at Plymouth University. We are undertaking the 3 peaks challenge for the Grand Appeal and in memory of my son Callum who we lost in 2014.

Callum had a cough and doctors had diagnosed a chest infection on 13th May. He was otherwise well and had been eating normally, running around playing and behaving perfectly normally. On the evening of 14th May tragedy struck and Callum suffered a cardiac arrest at home. His mummy desperately gave him CPR before being transferred to Derriford Hospital and Bristol Children's Hospital. We were told that Callum had an extremely aggressive and fast growing lymphoma. Callum had shown no sign of anything so serious. We were told that the tumour probably took no longer than 3 weeks to grow and because of its location, caused the cardiac arrest. Despite the efforts of all the doctors and nurses, Callum passed away in our arms on 18th May. He was just just 4 years and 3 months old.

Callum was simply fantastic and he lit up our lives. To know Callum was to love Callum and we cannot describe just how much we miss him. Raising money in his name keeps his memory alive and gives us a focus, whilst helping the work that the Grand Appeal do for children and their families at Bristol Children's Hospital.

Anything at all that you can donate to help us meet our target is greatly appreciated.

The National Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales - we are being sensible and doing it in 3 days.

      The three mountains are:

      • Snowdon, in Wales (1085m)
      • Scafell Pike, in England (978m)
      • Ben Nevis, in Scotland (1345m)

The total walking distance is 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3064 metres (10,052ft) - twice the ascent of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, over a similar total walking distance. The total driving distance is 462 miles.

After a couple of months out with injury, I am taking part in the Plymouth 10k in memory of my beautiful nephew Callum, who sadly passed away in May 2014, aged just 4 years and 3 months old. I am running on behalf of the Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal and all monies raised go to Bristol Children's Hospital, where Callum was looked after by the fantastic Doctors and Nurses.

All donations will go towards continuing the wonderful work of this charity that supports sick children and their families.

The Grand Appeal supports Bristol Children’s Hospital by funding pioneering, life-saving equipment and research so that young patients have access to the best possible
treatment and care at times when they are desperately ill. It also provides free accommodation for families so they can be near to their precious children and strives to support family members during the most difficult times of their lives.

In May 2014, Callum, the gorgeous son of our friends Claire and Ian and brother to their daughter Emily, suddenly became seriously unwell. He suffered a cardiac arrest at home and was initially rushed to Derriford Hospital (Plymouth) and then transferred to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. Four days later, on Sunday 18th May, Callum so very sadly passed away at just four years old.

During those few days in hospital, the doctors who desperately tried to help Callum discovered he had a large, aggressive and rapidly growing lymphoma covering part of his chest (lymphoblastic lymphoma, a form of Non-Hodgkins). Although he showed no previous symptoms at all, Callum's tumour was so aggressive it had blocked his airway which caused the cardiac arrest. In turn, it caused a lack of oxygen to his little brain, causing catastrophic brain injury.

The lives of Callum's family since that heartbreaking day, in particular his lovely mum Claire, dad Ian and sister Emily will simply never be the same again. However, they have all worked so very hard to raise money for The Grand Appeal in Callum's memory to support Bristol Children's Hospital. It is hoped this will help the hospital to continue both its incredible medical work as well as providing accommodation and on-going support to families.

It is for Callum and all of these reasons why I would like to raise money for the Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal for Bristol Children's Hospital. I hope my attempt to swim 22 miles across the English Channel whilst avoiding passing ships and jellyfish will encourage you to please donate generously!

      Many thanks for your support.

On 23rd April 2017 I'll be taking on the challenge of the London Marathon again. It's no mean feat (in fact two pretty painful ones....), but I'm running in memory of such a special little boy that thinking of him alone will get me around the course. That little boy is mine and Claire's son Callum.

It was 14th May 2014 when tragedy struck and Callum suffered a cardiac arrest at home. His mummy desperately gave him CPR before being transferred to Derriford Hospital and then Bristol Children's Hospital where we were told that Callum had an extremely aggressive and fast growing lymphoma. Callum had shown no signs of anything so serious and only had a cough when tragedy struck. In fact he'd been to the doctors only the day before where a chest infection was diagnosed. Other than the cough, he'd been eating normally, running around playing and behaving perfectly normally. We were told the tumour probably took no more than three weeks to grow and because of its location, caused the cardiac arrest. Despite the amazing efforts of the doctors and nurses, Callum passed away in our arms on 18th May 2014. He was just 4 years and 3 months old.

Callum was such an amazing little boy who lit up a room as soon as he ran in. He was simply fantastic. To know Callum was to love Callum and we cannot put into words how much we miss him. Raising money in Callum's memory helps to give us a focus and keep his memory alive. At the same time, all money raised helps so many other sick babies and children at Bristol Children's Hospital and the amazing work that the staff do.

On 15th May 2016, Me, Mum, Dad and Auntie Lins are going to take part in the first ever Great Bristol Family Mile.  We're doing it to remember my brilliant little brother Callum.  I really miss Callum.  I want to do something to raise money in his memory for The Grand Appeal.

On 18th May, it will be two years since we lost Callum so it's going to be really hard for us to take part, but we really want to do this for Callum.

If you'd like to sponsor me and my team, it will be going to a really really good cause.

The other night we did a 5 mile run and at the end I was trying to convince myself I would be able to run an additional 8 miles.  Well we have done it before, but now 5 years on/years older we are attempting it again.  As before, we are hoping to raise money for the Bristol Children’s Hospital charity, the Grand Appeal.  (http://www.grandappeal.org.uk/)  Connor, our eldest grandchild, has undergone various operations at the hospital and will be returning for further operations in the future.   We are now blessed with 4 grandchildren and know just how precious they all are.

We met various people and their children when visiting Connor in Bristol and it opens your eyes to a totally different world and, unfortunately, sometimes tragic events.  Then, last year Callum, the 4 year old son of one of my work colleagues, was suddenly rushed to Bristol Children’s Hospital and although the staff did all they could to save him, it was in vain.

We were already contemplating entering the Plymouth Half Marathon again so this made the decision for us because we want to help support Callum’s fund.  No more “can I do this?” We will finish the 13.1 miles even if we have to plod/walk/stagger part of the way.

So this page is called 5 yo-yo, five years on-years older, but also I think life is like a yo-yo with its ups and downs.  Sometimes it unravels and it goes right down and hits rock bottom.  Although this is how my dear friend Claire and all her family must feel they have generously set up a fund in Callum’s memory to help other children.  I hope that by raising money for Callum’s fund not only will it help a fantastic cause but hopefully it will help raise their spirits by showing our support.  Of course there are so many good causes and you may well already support various charities or indeed have donated to Callum’s fund already.  But if you feel you want to donate, we would appreciate it whatever the amount, even just £1 would help towards a cause that means so much to us.

For Callum.......this is what we're doing:

Well Callum, you'll be laughing your head off to think that Mummy's going to be running (it's hilarious isn't it), but I know how much fun we all had at Michael's Mountain (as you called it) and how much you liked it there so I thought I'd run there just for you, because you know I'd do anything in the world for you.

Auntie Lins is training me (she's a brave girl with a big job on her hands) and she's going to run it with me.  We're running the St Michael's Mount Remembrance Run; 4.2 miles along the beach at Marazion in front of Michael's Mountain to raise money for The Grand Appeal.

Callum, you will always be the most gorgeous and special little boy in the world.  We miss you so much our 'best boy' and we will raise as much money in your name as we can.  We'll make you proud our little mate.

      We're doing this because:

Our lives have been torn apart since the loss of our beautiful Callum.  There is no pain like the pain we feel and life is unbearably difficult, but we've made it a focus to raise money in Callum's memory through The Grand Appeal to help other children at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.  Michael's Mountain is a special place for us so we felt we had to run there on Remembrance Sunday for our fantastic little boy.

To read more of our story and why we're raising money for The Grand Appeal, please go to:

Thank you so so very much.

I know I'm biased, but as a mummy I'm allowed to be.....our lovely boy Callum was, and still is, quite simply FANTASTIC, THE BEST and most PERFECT little boy in the world!  He lit up a room as soon as he walked, or should I say, ran in.  Our little boy with such an infectious smile and laugh and the most wonderful and affectionate hugs and kisses you could ever have, was just perfect in every way. Callum was so inquisitive and absolutely bounding with energy.  To know Callum was to love Callum.  He loved life and he absolutely loved his family to bits.  And Callum, we loves you BIG TIME don't we....to the moon and back!  "You loves your boy don't you!"

On 14th May 2014 our world fell apart.  Our precious, gorgeous little boy was suddenly taken very ill.  Callum suffered a cardiac arrest at home, his mummy trying desperately to help him by giving him CPR. He was taken to Derriford Hospital and then transferred to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.  Four days later on Sunday 18th May, Callum passed away in our arms. Callum was just four years old.

Whilst Callum was being looked after, doctors discovered that he had a large, aggressive and rapidly growing lymphoma covering part of his chest (lymphoblastic lymphoma , a form of Non-Hodgkins).  Callum had shown no symptoms of something so severe.  He had just had a cough and had been diagnosed only the day before with a chest infection.  He hadn't been sick, lethargic, losing weight, off his food or complaining of any pain.  He was running around playing just as he always did.
Callum's tumour was so aggressive it blocked his airway and caused the cardiac arrest.  In turn, it caused a lack of oxygen to his little brain, causing catastrophic brain injury.

There was nothing we, or the doctors could have done to save Callum. Life for us as his parents and his sister Emily will never be the same again. We are truly devastated and heartbroken.  We miss Callum so so much; every minute of every day and miss the fantastic, gorgeous, perfect little boy he was.  His smile and affection lit up our lives and everyone he met.

In Callum's memory we have decided to try and do something positive and raise money for The Grand Appeal, supporting Bristol Royal Children's Hospital who tried so hard to help him.  The work that they do is fantastic and they need as much money as possible to treat the children that so desperately need their help and provide accommodation for their families.
If you can donate anything at all in Callum's memory, you will be helping a little boy or girl and their family to receive the help they need.

      Thank you so much.
