The runners, walkers and slow-coaches of Team Olive are back! We are taking part in the ‘RBC Race for the Kids 2018’ at Hyde Park on Saturday 13th October.

The RBC Race for the Kids is Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity’s annual 5k family fun run.

We'll be taking part with thousands of other people to raise vital funds and transform young lives.

Why Great Ormond Street Hospital needs our help.
Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is a place where seriously ill children from across the UK come for life-saving treatments. Every day, 618 patients arrive. Every day, doctors battle the most complex illnesses. Every day, the brightest minds come together to achieve pioneering medical breakthroughs.

And every day is a chance for you to make a difference. This extraordinary hospital has always depended on charitable support to give seriously ill children the best chance to fulfil their potential.

Visit gosh.org to find out more.

By sponsoring us, you’ll be helping Great Ormond Street Hospital to provide the very best care to seriously ill children.

The Olive Martin Brighter Future Fund
We setup the Olive Martin Brighter Future Fund in 2014 in memory of our daughter Olive who died of a very complex heart condition aged just 6 weeks. Thanks to amazing support from friends and family we've already raised over £37,264.

The fund has already bought a £9,000 TOE heart probe and £10,000 towards ground-breaking heart research. To support the major redevelopments at GOSH, we have allocated the rest of the Fund towards the creation of a new specialist cardiac unit dedicated to tackling heart failure in children. The new 14 bed unit (which is now open) will provide the foundations and infrastructure for world-leading experts to provide first class clinical care to children with heart failure and lead a pioneering programme of research focused on developing new and better devices that can buy children more time while waiting for a life-saving transplant.

Olive’s Fund is enabling GOSH make the improvements necessary at the hospital, so please support Team Olive (or even better, JOIN US below) and give generously.

I'll be riding the Tour de Yorkshire Sportive again this year. This time I'm taking on the roads and steep climbs where I grew up and where Olive's grandparents still live. It was a no brainer to ride for Olive.

    Any donations welcome.

    The 100km route:

"With so many of the climbs exceeding 15 per cent gradients in places you will need to be on top of your climbing game." - Cycling Weekly

This route option starts with a tough early climb up the locally renowned Pea Road Lane before joining the pro route for a section on Hunshelf Hall Lane. After another climb away from Millhouse Green it’s a long descent into Holmfirth, well known as the home of BBC’s Last of the Summer Wine for 37 years. Riders will then head towards Meltham, requiring them to conquer the hill at Netherthong, before heading through an undulating section featuring the villages of Honley and Farnley Tyas.

During the next part of the route riders will take on another tough uphill section, this time leading to the Emley Moor transmitting station whose tower is the tallest freestanding structure in the UK. Other highlights include a descent to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, passing the spectacular Cannon Hall before visiting Silkstone and Silkstone Common.

Riders then take on the same roads as the professionals again as they go through Wortley and into Deepcar, before they face an epic climb from Ewden Village which is sure to test even the strongest of riders. After a section through Wigtwizzle follows the last notable climb up to Bolsterstone, before the triumphant descent to the finish at Fox Valley.

Team Olive is taking part in the ‘RBC Race for the Kids’ on Sunday 15th May 2016. Team Olive consists of:

    – Oliver, Laura and Simon
    – Granny Mo and Granddad Rog
    – Edwin, Nicola and Daniel
    – Granny Duke

The RBC Race for the Kids is Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity’s annual 5k family fun run in the grounds of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. We'll be taking part with thousands of other people to raise vital funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Why Great Ormond Street Hospital needs our help?
Great Ormond Street Hospital is undergoing a major redevelopment. The demand for their world-class services is increasing faster than the ability to see and treat the children who need their help. Rebuilding and refurbishing outdated buildings will create additional space for patients, enabling them to care for more sick children and keep up with demand.

After an incredible 2015 of fundraising for Olive's Fund and Great Ormond Street Hospital, I've been thinking about what challenge to set myself that will be worthy of you digging deep and donating what you can to this page. I've become hooked on cycling (you may have noticed) since completing RideLondon–Surrey 100 mile ride last summer, so I've upped the stakes and the challenge for 2016 is three fold (see details below).

These three cycling challenges total approximately 635km and 8600m of climbing. I've been training and riding since November to prepare including regular 2-hour hills sessions before work on Wednesdays, long rides at least twice a month (my longest so far 205km in March) and commuting into work (a 35km round trip).

I want to make this second year special and I hope I can count on your support. For you Olive x

    CHALLENGE 1 > COMPLETED
    Tour de Yorkshire Sportive
    1 May 2016

The Tour de Yorkshire Sportive ride is the unique opportunity to experience the Tour de France atmosphere and to pave the way for the professional riders. The sportive will take place on the same day and roads as the 3rd and final stage of the Tour de Yorkshire pro ride.

This 120km (75 miles) ride with 1,540m (5,050ft) of climbing will loop out from Scarborough taking in the stunning North York Moors. It will be a testing start to the three-event challenge I’ve set myself – the Yorkshire pudding food stations will help.

    CHALLENGE 2 > COMPLETED
Rapha Cycling Club (RCC) Yorkshire 3-day Tour
    18–20 July 2016

Following in the pedal strokes of the Rapha Continental which took place on 23 June 2014, a group of us will take three days to explore the Howardian Hills, the North York Moors, and the Yorkshire Dales. A beautiful and challenging adventure totalling 355km (221 miles) and 5,620m (18,438ft) of climbing. That's the equivalent of two-thirds of Mount Everest.

This RCC Yorkshire 3-day Tour will take place between 18–20 July, starting in York and finishing in Skipton. There'll be a group of us from Team Olive and my new RCC club mates. We'll be hoping to experience something similar to this:

    http://pages.rapha.cc/rides/yorkshire

    CHALLENGE 3
    RideLondon–Surrey 100
    31 July 2016

Feels fitting that I round off this years challenge where it started last year. RideLondon–Surrey 100 was an amazing experience and a unique closed-road event. Starting in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and ending on The Mall taking in stunning scenery on the way with 25,000 other riders – with a few of the original OM riders included.

This last leg of the challenge will total 160km (100 miles) and 1,440m (4,593ft) of climbing. The Mall finish will be a brilliant finale.

    Olive's story – http://olivemartin.org
It will be two years since we lost our beautiful Olive to an unfixable heart defect. We miss her everyday but her legacy through her Brighter Future Fund that supports Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity will give other kids a fighting chance when facing similar life-changing events.

We have raised over £26,000 (as of 1st Jan 2016) since the fund was created in Sept 2015 for kids with heart defects, be magnificent if we can get to £35,000 by the end of 2016. With your help we can do it.

The fund has already bought a £9,000 TOE heart probe and £10,000 towards ground-breaking heart research. There'll be a merry band of us cycling the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 mile challenge on 2nd August 2015 in memory of my pal's little girl, Olive Martin. It's my first ever attempt at something like this and having been retired from sport for the best part of a decade, these old saggy muscles will be pained at the sheer scale of the task not to mention the poor training preparation.

I had the honour and yet heart wrenching experience of visiting Olive at Great Ormond Street with Paul. I'm sure that as most of you can imagine, it was a heartbreaking time for Paul, Clare and all their friends and family. With this fundraising, we hope to help and support others who may face similar circumstances in the future.

Any donation will be very gratefully received, I promise to buy the drinks the next time we meet : )

The event. Celebrating the legacy for cycling created by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 starts in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, then follows a 100-mile route on closed roads through the capital and into Surrey’s stunning countryside, finishing on The Mall in central London. With leg-testing climbs and a route made famous by the world’s best cyclists at the London 2012 Olympics, it's a truly spectacular event for all involved.

Hi and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

There'll be a group of us cycling the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 mile challenge on 2nd August 2015 in memory of my friend Paul's little girl, Olive.

The fund was set up by Paul and his wife Clare after their daughter sadly passed away last year.

Their words explain the cause better than I ever could:

Our beautiful daughter Olive was born on 7th June 2014 with a very complex heart condition, sadly too complex even for the team at Great Ormond Street Hospital to fix. After two 9-hour open-heart procedures in the space of a week, and another week of being fully supported on ECMO, our brave little girl passed away in our arms on 22nd July 2014, only 6 weeks after she was born.

Why are we doing this? Clare and I are determined that everything we do in Olive's memory can help other sick children and their families. For this reason we have chosen to support Great Ormond Street Hospital – specifically we want to fund break-through heart research projects and also contribute to further advance the care of all GOSH patients and families.

Please give whatever you can and feel comfortable giving. Your contribution however big or small will be greatly appreciated, and will be going towards a genuinely life changing organisation and helping countless people.

All monies raised will go towards the Olive Martin Brighter Future Fund which Paul and Clare setup to help fund break-through heart research projects at Great Ormond Street Hospital and also contribute to further advance the care of all patients and families.

Thank you so much for your support.

A good friend and colleague recently lost his baby daughter Olive to a complex heart condition this year. In her memory The Olive Martin Fund was set up to help support the incredible care provided by Great Ormond Street Hospital every hour of every day.

Paul and Clare put it best:

By remembering Olive in this way we'll be doing all we can to ensure Olive made a difference in the world – and that will make us very proud.

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm cycling the Prudential RideLondon Surrey 100 on August 2nd for my friend's foundation which he set up with his wife in memory of their daughter Olive. You can read more about their foundation here - https://www.justgiving.com/olivemartin/ - and below is a small outtake.

This is my first distance cycle ever, and frankly I'm rather daunted by it. I've been training the past few months and believe I can go the distance, but every little bit of encouragement - i.e. donations :) - will help me go further and faster!

Do give as much as you can - every donation big or small will go to a great cause.

    Many thanks,
    Niall

Me and some friends are going to tackle the runamuck challenge in memory of Olive Martin and to support Great Ormond Street Hospital, London.  Recently my best friend Clare and her husband tragically lost their beautiful daughter Olive at just 6 weeks due to a complex heart condition. While I can never take away the pain and heartache Clare and Paul have, I will try and do what I can to support two amazing parents. They have bravely set up the Olive Martin Brighter Future Fund to help fund further heart research projects at Great Ormond St hospital. Every little helps so if you could kindly sponsor us to get messy, mucky and knackered you would be helping out a great fund.  Many thanks

On the 2nd August 2015 I will be riding in the Prudential RideLondon - Surrey 100, but that's merely the end of the challenge I'm setting myself.

Between now the 2nd, I will be attempting to complete the cumulative distance between the Moving Brands New York and San Francisco studios in the states. A total distance of 4,680km, all being covered by road bike.

I'm going to be recording GPS data from all the rides on my way that magic number, as well as taking photos and keeping a journal of the whole thing. If there's time, I'm hoping there might even be some nice little digital output that can be produce using the data I generate, but we'll see.

I'm doing all this in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital in conjunction with the Olive Martin Fund.

The fund was set up by my friend and colleague after his daughter sadly passed away earlier this year.

Here's a short back story to the fund from their Just Giving https://www.justgiving.com/olivemartin/

Our beautiful daughter Olive was born on 7th June 2014 with a very complex heart condition, sadly too complex even for the team at Great Ormond Street Hospital to fix. For this reason we have chosen to support Great Ormond Street Hospital – specifically we want to fund break-through heart research projects and also contribute to further advance the care of all GOSH patients and families.

It's a devastating story, and something I would hope touches everyone who hears it. I've always wanted to help contribute to charity by using my bike, and I think you'll all agree that this is an incredibly worthy cause.

Please give what ever you can and feel comfortable giving. Your contribution however big or small will be greatly appreciated, and will be going towards a genuinely life changing organisation and helping countless people.

    Thanks!

    Wish me luck!

We did it! It was an incredible day and ride. Thank you so much to all that have supported me and the other riders of Team Olive. The 100 miles flew by and the legs survived and I'll be back next year to see if I can beat my time of 5hr45m.

I think Olive would've loved seeing her daddy sprint down The Mall.

    What's next years challenge...I'm thinking :)

All monies raised will go towards the Olive Martin Brighter Future Fund which Clare and I setup to help fund break-through heart research projects at Great Ormond Street Hospital and also contribute to further advance the care of all patients and families.

Thanks to my fellow 'Team Olive' riders for their amazing fundraising efforts – it's above £13,000 and rising!

Hi there and thanks for getting this far and visiting my page!

I'm taking part in a torturous 100 mile cycle this August. I'll be wincing, whinging and sighing for 100 miles on August 2nd 2015 from London to Surrey and back. I'm trying in my own small way to contribute to an extremely worthy cause and hoping you'll help make it worthwhile for the people who have to cycle alongside me!

A good friend recently lost his baby daughter Olive to a complex heart condition. In her memory The Olive Martin Fund was set up to help support the incredible care provided by Great Ormond Street Hospital every hour of every day for children and families in desperate need. Your donation will fund breakthrough research and further the care of GOSH patients and families.

GOSH has been there for my family and countless others in the darkest of times, and this is an opportunity to contribute to advancing the treatment, care and support they provide.

I'd be eternally grateful for whatever you can spare in sponsorship, no minimum, no judgement, just gratitude and the warm feeling you'll get knowing that your contribution will quite literally be life changing.

What you do will be making a huge difference, without your support I'm just some silly **** on a bike.

    THANK YOU!

We said our final goodbyes to Olive in August 2014. It was a beautiful service and we've been overwhelmed by how much love and support we've received from family and friends far and wide – Clare, Arnold and I are very lucky to have you.

Since Olive's passing, we have been asked many times 'what can we do to help?',  in response to this we would welcome anything you can give to help us kickstart our fundraising efforts in memory of Olive.

It's easy to donate, simply donate here on this page or text donations to the Olive Martin Fund by texting 'OLIV70 £1' to 70070. Please change the £ amount if you so wish!

    – Shave your head
    – Grow a moustache or beard
    – Wear your worst fashion faux pas to work
    – Charity ball and auction
    – Charity fashion show
    – Karaoke night
    – Quiz night
    – Coffee morning
    – Garden party and BBQ
    – Cheese and wine night
    – Children's fancy dress party
    – Pamper night
    – 'Come Dine With Me' dinners
    – Cake bake
    – Cake sale or office bake-off competition
    – Dress down or fancy dress Friday
    – Make your colleagues lunch
    – Office sweepstake for sporting events

I'm sure you can think of more but whatever you do, it would mean the world to us.

Give blood. In addition to raising as much money as possible, another special thing you can do is give blood. We gave blood 3 days after Olive died and will continue to do so as often as we're allowed. Blood products are extremely critical when caring for very sick children. Olive had lots and we'll always be grateful to those anonymous donors. Visit the Give Blood website to book your appointment, it's easy and painless (in the grand scheme of things):

    my.blood.co.uk

Thank you. By remembering Olive in this way we'll be doing all we can to ensure Olive made a difference in the world – and that will make us very proud.

    Sleep tight Olive.
