Dog Sledding in the Arctic 2011 · 21 March 2011
I DID IT!
THANK YOU EVERYBODY FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Hi Everybody!
In March 2011 I will be taking part in the ultimate challenge and dog sledding my way across Northern Norway in aid of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. I aim to raise £3,000, can you help me reach my target
As part of the expedition I will be given expert training in dog handling, spending seven days learning how to sled and building a unique bond with my team of four huskies. I will feed and care for my dogs every day and will often need to run alongside them as we tackle the frozen hills and icy ditches. Along with a team of 12 others, I will cross the 200km of harsh landscape.
I work at the Home as an Animal Welfare Assistant which means I spend my days looking after the abandoned and lost dogs. They arrive here looking frightened and confused and many of them are injured and starving. It is my job to do everything I can to care for them and make sure they enjoy their stay at Battersea. I clean their kennels, feed and exercise them while they wait to be taken home by a loving new family.
Battersea Dogs and Cats Home cared for 10,600 animals in 2009. This year the Home celebrates its 150th anniversary, and since it was founded it has taken in 3.1 million animals. By taking part in this amazing challenge I aim to help the Home continue caring for needy animals for another 150 years.
Please give as much as you can to help this deserving cause. A donation of just £5 will help buy a warm vetbed blanket for five dogs or cats.
I'm doing this challenge for the animals I love and care, Buzz, Ace, Ice, Mulberry, Farley, Bluey, Lilly, Eve, Robert and Lucy. I am also doing it for the thousands more who need Battersea’s help. I feel that I am lucky to be part of their lives and to see them coming into Battersea and leaving to their home. Thank you for your support.
