In February 2009 Katherine Bown (a very dear friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer.  The news took absolutely everyone by shock, mainly poor Kath who had just married husband Rhodri only a few months before being diagnosed.  She actually discovered the lump whilst on her honeymoon in the Maldives.

The 'C' word is a disease I knew very little about until now, and as I had never actually encountered or had to face it - I remained very naive to it.  I suppose you could say deliberately "ignorant" of its existence.  It’s true, we convince ourselves that it always happens to other people and that you and those nearest and dearest to you are 'immune' to it.  Kath's situation has indeed proved me wrong and taught me the valuable lesson in life that no one is immune.

I have now witnessed firsthand what cancer does to a person and how aggressive but invaluable both Chemo and Radiotherapy are in order to fight off the disease.  I cannot even begin to imagine the full extent of the pain and suffering that Kath went through in order to get well again, but I’ve learnt that this is the healing stage. However, I do know beat this, and like so many hundreds of thousands of others like her, she was able to receive this life saving treatment because people like you and I help to raise money for worthy charities, with a common goal in mind, to find a cure.

Kath has set herself a "Million Pound Challenge".  It is my intention to run in as many charity races over the next 5 years to help her achieve that target.

I dedicate this page of course to Kath, but also to my dear Grandfather who sadly passed away in February 2010 as a result of  lung cancer.  Granddad - this is for you.  I miss you and I love you with all my heart.
