Story
The Who:
The challenge is in memory of our great friend and housemate of 4 years throughout our time at Sheffield Uni - Richard Pover, or Po as he was known among us.
Po sadly lost his long battle with testicular cancer at the end of my time at university. While this sort of thing is said a lot, he is genuinely one of the most kind, determined and brave human beings we will ever have the pleasure of knowing.
The Why:
Western Park Hospital Teenage Cancer Trust Unit is where Po spent his final days, and a lot of his time when recovering between various chemo treatments and operations. It is an exceptional Cancer Unit and Po would agree it made his battle with cancer just that little bit more bearable. A very deserving and personal charity for the challenge.
The What, Where, When and How:
About a dozen of us from Sheffield University will be walking 24hours, non-stop through the night, from Sheffield to Tarporley. And if that doesn't sound appetising enough, there's this thing called The Peak District in the way. Quite hilly apparently.
On Saturday 14th June the walk will start at Western Park, Sheffield (just outside the Cancer Unit) - by the memorial tree that was planted for Richard earlier this year, ending at his family home in Tarporley, near Chester, Cheshire.
