Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
I can't believe i'm actually doing this but on the 7th September I will be attempting my first triathlon in Newbury. It will involve a 300m swim, 22km Cycle and 5km run and i'm led to believe that these have to be completed in succession rather than waiting a few days between each one!
The main reason for this madness ( or mid-life crisis) is to raise money for the Kangaroo Club at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Many of you will know the treatment I received at the JR for Ulcerative Colitis some years ago and that I am now actively involved in this charity to provide support and help to those facing the same operations I had.
The Gastro department at the JR desperately need a new portable scoping machine to be used in clinic which will be used in the diagnosis and treatment of UC, FAP and Cancer, but NHS funds don't seem to be able to stretch that far. As a result the Kangaroo Club has undertaken to try and provide this machine which will cost in the region of £5000.
For me doing a triathlon seemed to encapsulate the whole essence of the Kangaroo Club - to raise money and provide a much needed piece of equipment, but also to show other people who are in the postion I was in 5 years ago that there is life after Ulcerative Colitis and that the procedure and skill of the JR team really can open the door to activities that perhaps would have seemed impossible in the past- as I aim to prove on the 7th!!
I appreciate this request is a bit last minute but please sponsor me and help me raise the money we need to buy this essential piece of equipment. Should we have any funds left over they will be put towards further research into the treatment of UC.
Many Thanks
Richard
