Story
Hello all and Welcome to the Rick and the Rollers charity page!
We will be driving a pimped out Rickshaw (tuk tuk) in a massive race from Pokhara in Nepal to Cochin in South India over thousands of miles of terrible roads, jungles, deserts, massive snakes and everything else India can throw at us...all for charity! Yay!
Maps and GPS are considered cheating and we’ve been guaranteed that our ancient tuk tuk will break down nearly every day. We will almost definitely get massively lost and we may well end up detouring via the Tibetan highlands, especially if we let Rachael anywhere near the compass. Awesome. Due to the fact that the rickshaw itself is a two stroke, 50cc machine with a top speed of about 35 mph, we'll need to be on the go about ten gruelling hours a day to make the the finishing line on time.
Rach, Paul and Andy make up the team and we feel we all bring different strengths and weaknesses to the team. Rachael is of course the organiser/panicker, Andy is the navigator/gung-ho idiot and Paul is the translator/sleeper-inner. Together we are going to be quite formidable and we're in it to win it!
The 2 x great charities we are raising money for are:
Maiti Nepal:
Maiti Nepal is a charity that does vital work in rehabilitating women who have been subject to violence and abuse, particularly as the result of sexual trafficking. It aims to provide a safe refuge in giving back these girls their lives whilst helping them seek justice against the perpetrators.
Mercy Corps:
Mercy Corps in India helps support sustainable farming projects, particularly within the tea industry. They are helping to develop the industry for local communities who previously worked under the strictures of colonialism to ensure that they receive a fair price for their produce and can be self-sufficient going forward.
