On April 2009 Claire was admitted to Yorkhill Hospital, Glasgow to repair the holes in her heart and her mitral valve. The first operation went really well and they patched up 7 holes and repaired the valve. However after getting out of intesive care, she shortly returned to theatre as the repaired mitral valve was not sufficient enough. After another long agonising operation, they managed to patch a futher 6 holes and gave her an artificial mitral valve. This was the turning point, as Claire’s health quickly picked up.

After 7 weeks in hospital, 5 of those weeks spent in intensive care, 13 holes patched up and a brand new mitral valve. Claire was back home with her family.

Claire’s recovery has been fantastic, she’s a fit young girl who enjoys all activities any other child would. Recently she walked to the summit of Tinto near Biggar and she really enjoyed the walk. Now, over a year later Claire aged 11 will walk to the summit of Ben Nevis to raise money for the hospital, to make sure other children get the same sort of care she did too.

Last August, Claire’s brother managed to raise £1,600.00 for Yorkhill by doing the same walk, so please help her beat her brother’s amount and dig deep for such a great cause.

Yorkhill help children from all over Scotland, last year we met parents from Dundee to the Outer Hebrides who also had children getting treatment in Yorkhill.

Thank you for visiting Claire’s fundraising page, please feel free to browse the photos and watch the video tribute diary her brother made.

Thanks

Claire, Robin, Charlene and Robin.
