We work in developing communities to tackle the root causes of poverty

Story

As-salāmu ʿalaykum.

This page has been set up on behalf of our Nan- Roushonara (Ruby) Begum Meah, who passed away on Friday 25th March 2016, age 64.

Our brave Nan was in a coma for more than a month, as she had suddenly suffered multiple ailments. The root cause was an abdominal disease so we do pray that Allah accepts her as a shaheed (martyr), as one of the 7 under this category is the one who dies with an abdominal pain.

She is one of the strongest women we know. She endured countless trials in this life, but remained firm and steadfast on her Deen. She lived a life of simplicity and modesty, and always put her family, community, and everyone before herself. We are blessed to have so many moments and memories with her, and wish to carry on her (as well as our Grandad's) legacy.

On behalf of her 11 grandchildren, we have decided to get a masjid built in a place where it's most needed at the moment- in Gambia, along with a long term sustainable well on her behalf as sadaqa jaariya (ongoing charity).

The masjid plans to serve 600+ people, and the well plans to serve a community village of 3000 people insha'Allah.

We plan to start the construction at around July 2016, this will be done under Muslim Hands a charity based in the UK with partners in Gambia. The pictures shown are examples of masjids built by Muslim hands - we plan to build masjids a bit bigger than the ones shown.

On top of the masjid and the well we plan to donate 100 Qurans for the people to read, including students in the madrassa.

Ibn Maajah (242) narrated that Abu Hurayrah said: “The good deeds that will reach a believer after his death are: knowledge which he learned and then spread; a righteous son whom he leaves behind; a copy of the Qur’aan that he leaves as a legacy; a mosque that he built; a house that he built for wayfarers; a canal that he dug; or charity that he gave during his lifetime when he was in good health. These deeds will reach him after his death.”

Thank you. Jazak Allah Khair.
