Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
RSA Insurance is celebrating 300 years as a company this year and we have a lot of activity going on within the company to mark this special event.
One of the activities going on this year is a 'Charity Challenge' which is pitting all the different offices, business's that make up RSA against each other to see who can do the most for Charity. Whether that is by raising the most money, providing man hours for volunteer work, donating unwanted items or a combination of all three.
Within RSA we have approximately 1100 Homeworkers and for this event these are all being classed as one 'Business'.
Our event will be a sponsored Cycle Ride (25 miles) and a Walk (10 miles) around Rutland Water on the 11th June 2010 and we are hoping that around 100 of our Homeworkers will be taking part.
The Rules of our Charity Challenge is that the beneficiaries of any monies raised should be related to one of the three areas below :
Crime Prevention
Climate
Community
We know how much Scouting is linked to, and provides a real asset to the Community and that this would be a great Charity to support. As our Homeworkers are spread around the UK we thought that we couldn't just pick a single Scout Group and would therefore like to donate any raised monies to the Association as a whole.
Each week, thousands of children find out what it means to take a risk, lead a team, make a friend and discover that life is as much about possibilities as it is challenges. Scouting also helps broaden minds and builds bridges between communities. In a time of when many young people are portrayed as inactive and antisocial, Scouting chooses to believe in them. Scouting not only takes young people outdoors but out of themselves. The Scout Association are committed to keeping Scouting affordable to every family in the UK.
But Scouting doesn't just happen. It takes resources, organisation and commitment from our adult volunteers (and not a single one is paid). Each of them receives support and ongoing training to keep their skills up to date. The Scout Association work hard with commercial partnerships and other business opportunities to subsidise the cost of Scouting - and are proud that their membership fee is currently less than £20 a year per person.
Monies raised during this event will help to keep the membership costs down for young people so that they can continue to enjoy Scouting.
