We work tirelessly across the country to rescue & rehome greyhounds & lurchers.

Story

In March 2020 right at the beginning of lockdown the RSPCA seized a lurcher girl, a saluki x collie. She was completely shut down and seemed unable to walk due to fear. The RSPCA took her to Heath and Reach Vets for consultation. They felt that this girl was beyond help and wanted to discuss euthanasia.

Reluctant to put her to sleep, the vet suggested that they consult a behaviourist for an opinion. They agreed to do so and the vet recommended a behaviourist from Forever Hounds Trust for the job.

The lurcher was housed in Kingswood Kennels. There was plenty of room as they were of course closed due to lockdown. They named her 'Hope'.

When the behaviourist met Hope she felt that she was rescuable and she was taken into Forever Hounds Trust numbers but, as there was no space at their shelter, Kingswood kennels agreed to keep her there, although she was the only occupant.  The behaviourist visited and worked with her. Her confidence increased and it was felt that she would soon be ready for homing although she remained a nervous girl.

Richard who runs Kingswood kennels also runs a pet crematorium on the site. In April our much loved lurcher 'Chloe' had passed to rainbow bridge and we took her to be individually cremated. We mentioned that we were worried how our old girl whippet 'Stick' would cope without her best friend and Richard mentioned Hope.

We thought things through as it was so soon after loosing Chloe. Of course we then contacted Richard who passed on our details to to the behaviourist. We went through the procedures  and the outcome was that we were matched with Hope!

Jeni arranged for me to collect her. The paperwork was all done remotely due to lockdown and Richard handed her over to me with a harness and a lead.

Hope is now a very happy girl, running free and swimming in rivers and ponds at every opportunity. She is obedient and loyal and fantastic with our three young children and we couldn't be happier.
