Story
On behalf of the Samaritans Christmas Quiz Team, can I please thank everyone who has taken part in this year's quiz, and for their extraordinary generosity. After the justgiving.com costs have been removed the net total for Leicester branch of the Samaritans is £1395.25...!
The prize draw has also taken place and I am delighted to report that the winner of the Bottle of Champagne (Donated by the organisers personally) was Nick Jackson, so congratulations to him. The bottle is on its way to him......
We look forward to building on our success in 2010 with another successful quiz in 2011.
Regards,
The Samaritans Christmas Quiz Team
Why Samaritans ?
Leicester Samaritans is manned by volunteers who provide support for people who are feeling desperately unhappy or who believe they have no future.
Around 40,000 calls are made each year to the Leicester branch.
Of these calls, over 3000 are from people who are suicidal, around 1000 are from people who have made plans to take their own life and in 161 cases, that attempt is already underway at the time of the call.
The emotional support provided by Leicester Samaritans is more crucial now than ever before. The organisation, which has been active in the county since 1964, currently has a team of 153 volunteers who provide a 24/7 service all year round - including Christmas Day!
