We've joined Breast Cancer Campaign's challenge team 10-12 September for the Three Peaks Challenge. Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, Snowdon. 24 hours (or thereabouts!)
It's going to be a challenge - climbing and descending 3,000m in 24 hours, in a minibus for 10 hours, walking over rough terrain in the dark. We've got to build speed, stamina and endurance - so we're using every free hour to run up the infamous Wimbledon hills and going for training hikes in the Brecons.
The Campaign's mission is to beat breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research to understand how cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure. Every year almost 46,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK. This works out 125 per day, which means that around 375 people will be diagnosed over the course of our Three Peaks Challenge weekend.
It's a Campaign that means a lot to us, as close family have benefited from early diagnosis of cancer and treatment (even though Britain has one of the worst records in Europe in early detection and treatment of cancer). It's also fitting that as toddlers we experienced our first walks up Snowdon with the family!
Please sponsor us - every pound counts as we've paid the costs of the event entry. Thanks for your support – it will help us keep going….
