Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am raising money for St Peter's Church Petertide Fair causes. I ran in the BUPA London 10000 on 31st May, in just over an hour. The main fair will be held on Saturday,12th June in & around St Peter's Church, Berkhamsted. For more information please see http://petertidefair.org.uk/   All the money raised will be divided equally between two charities.

BerkoAstro

BerkoAstro is a local community project to create a full-sized, all-weather, floodlit sports pitch and changing pavilion which will benefit all of Berkhamsted’s young people.

At present, Berkhamsted does not possess adequate sporting facilities for its size. The new facility, which will be situated in the grounds of Ashlyns School, will benefit over 2,000 children at local schools, encouraging sporting achievement and improving fitness. The pitch will be used for a number of sports including football, rugby, hockey and fitness training and will be used by Berkhamsted Raiders Community Football Club for training and matches.  The facility will also be able to be hired by local people in the evenings and at weekends.

The community project, which is a joint initiative between Berkhamsted Raiders and Ashlyns School, is costing a total of £1.3 million.  It is hoped that this amount will be raised through the generosity of local people and that the facility will be opened in September 2010.

Karunashraya, a cancer hospice in India.

Karunashraya, meaning Abode of Peace, is a hospice providing palliative care to advanced stage cancer patients in Bangalore, India .

Designed to be a home away from home, the hospice was set up in October 1994 with the mission to improve the quality of life for cancer sufferers, irrespective of caste, creed, age or social status. Karunashraya’s aims are to alleviate pain and provide peace, dignity and psychological and spiritual support for all its patients. It provides a completely free service, has provision for 50 patients at any one time and has cared for nearly 9,000 patients since it opened.

As well as helping people at its hospice facility, Karunashraya also runs a home care programme to visit cancer sufferers in the local community and teach families how to care for their loved ones. In addition, the charity has recently set up palliative care education programmes and been instrumental in setting up further hospices in other areas of India.

All of the money raised by Karunashraya goes directly to help its patients.
