We offer expert care, guidance and support to people living with a terminal illness

Story

Hi Everyone

This June, I am going to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain.

My role will be to not only complete the climb but be there to support, encourage and help the participants who are taking part on the trek.

I will also be responsible for reminding the participants the reason why the money they are raising is so important.

Some reckon these types of trips are just a holiday you get other folk to pay for – this is so far from the truth!  It will be a physical, mental and emotional Challenge – plus they will have to put up with my chat!  They have also spent months raising sponsorship money.

And yes the money does get spent - not only is awareness raised but £2 million a year gets raised from people doing such challenges as this – this equates to 100,000 hours of Marie Curie Nurses (the angels) staying in the houses of cancer patients.

If you are lucky, then this might not mean much to you…….. so to give you an idea ……when a patient has been diagnosed as being terminally ill and is approaching the last few days of their lives the Marie Curie nurse physically goes and stays in the patients house.

They are there to help medically with pain relief and general nursing.  But more so they are there to give the family rest during what is an extremely painful and exhausting time.

They are also there as a shoulder to cry on and someone to lean against in a truly horrific time.

The patient then can die, in their own beds, in their own homes, with dignity and peace.

It is an amazing service and it is free to everyone.

If you want to hear more about the service, Hugh Grant (his mum was nursed by Marie Curie) has done an interview with one of our nurses and it is on our website – the link is below

Anything you can give would be extremely appreciated - even if you could sponsor me the price it would cost you for a pint and a bag of nuts down the pub, that would be great!

In addition to this I will be donating earnings from my Massage and Reflexology Business over the next 3 months

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Marie Curie Cancer Care gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
