Emma and Sarah are running the Virgin London Marathon 2017 for Breast Cancer Now in memory of our beautiful friend Sharon, who we tragically lost to cancer in June 2016.
Emma, Sharon and Sarah have been friends since school and grew up together. We supported each other through exams, college, first jobs, weddings and babies.
In November 2014, Sharon found a lump in her breast and received the horrifying news that she had stage 3 breast cancer. Sharon was just 36 years old. Sharon's cancer was particularly aggressive but she tackled it with sheer guts and determination, enduring multiple bouts of chemotherapy and surgery. Sharon's focus was to beat this awful disease and survive to stay with her husband Danny and two beautiful young daughters Lily and Daisy. Sharon's cancer was cruel and un-relentless, reappearing in multiple places within a matter of months. There was little we could do but hold her hand, give her hugs and try to stay positive. Sharon, her husband and girls were absolutely admirable and we were in awe of their strength as a family. 19 long months, our brave girl battled that cruel disease but Sharon sadly passed away on 13th June 2016, 5 days short of her 38th birthday. We think about and miss her every day.
Emma and Sarah have run for many years and found it a great comfort during Sharon's illness and since her passing. We were desperate to enter the London Marathon in 2017 to honour Sharon's memory and raise as much money as possible for a breast cancer charity. We are both thrilled to be chosen by Breast Cancer Now to run the London Marathon in Sharon's memory. Breast Cancer Now is the leading UK breast cancer research charity. We hope that one day a way can be found to stop this awful disease and stop another family and another group of friends losing someone they love so dearly. We want to raise as much as we possibly can for their vital research and appreciate any donation you can spare.
Thank you
