Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm looking for a new challenge in 2010. A dodgy knee makes running impossible and so I thought I'd try a little swim. I read somewhere that 10km was the equivalent of a marathon and thought it sounded the perfect challenge! Remind me of those words on the day......
I plan to swim 500 lengths in the Green Health Club pool in one hit, on one day. I'll stop for breaks and food. I think it will take me about 6 hours.
I am raising money for Alzheimer Support who offer practical help to people suffering from dementia/Alzheimers and their carers.
A key person in my life is affected by dementia. My father is 86 this year and in the advanced stages of Parkinson's Disease. He suffers some confusion and he cannot be left alone. He needs constant care by my amazing mother, Antoinette, who looks after him on a daily basis at home. Dad still enjoys many things such as listening to music, eating and a glass of wine every day. He loves seeing the grandchildren as long as they're not too noisy! See photos.

May update- Apologies to everyone that I still haven't undertaken this task. Had a B12 blip in February and needed more frequent infusions since then. I am now being a good girl and keeping the treatment regular and basically prioritising my health needs. I'm on Carol Voderman's detox diet since April and that's helping my malabsorption issues, the result is lots more energy to undertake this challenge! Learning about Pernicious Anaemia and how to managing it all takes a lot of time. After all, we are all unique and this disease doesn't have a 'one size fits all' treatment. The good news is that I am slowly getting the hang of it, with lots of support from my friends & family.
Everything happens for a reason & every cloud has a silver lining!
September 10th 2010 - I'm pleased to say that I did the swim today. It took me 4 hours and 12 minutes to swim 500 lengths. I took breaks every 100 lengths so my total time in the pool was just under 6 hours. I now know why people wear a swim hat as my hair had some serious dreadlocks in it at the end of the swim...I guess that's down to the 999 tumble turns that I did! I thought it was appropriate to do this challenge this week as it's been in the news that high doses of vitamin B6,B9 & B12 can prevent Alzheimers. My father started B12 treatment nearly two years ago and has benefitted enormously from it ( knows who we all are again).
Thanks for all your support.
