Story
In 2006, Cushman & Wakefield created its own registered charity - Schools Around The World (SATW). The aim of SATW is to assist children and young adults who are in full time education but remain disadvantaged by social domestic or financial circumstances. We would now like to ask for your help on our exciting fundraising activity for SATW. We are part of a multinational team of 13 people representing 10 of Cushman & Wakefield’s European offices and we will set out in August on a gruelling trek to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa. Harry Farthing, head of Cushman in Italy, is leading the climb with British climber Rhys Jones, who reached the summit of Mount Everest on his 20th birthday.
The UK contingent includes Simon O’Reilly from client solutions, Will Cooper from project management and the head of HR, Liz Bunce.
With your help, the UK Team would like to raise money for our exciting SATW project in Tanzania, where we are entering into partnership with the Ministry of Education to construct a secondary school at Miono in the Bagamoyo District. The Government does not have sufficient funds to build the number schools the country needs and the existing schools are in a very bad state of repair and poorly maintained. In addition to the clear shortage of classrooms, many of the schools don't have basic facilities such as libraries and laboratories. The new school will initially provide 12 classes of 30 students, 2 blocks of laboratories, a library and a computer room. The residential facilities will comprise 7 blocks of dormitories, dining hall /kitchen, sick bay and housing facilities for teachers. There will also be sports facilities including athletics, football, basketball, handball, volleyball and netball.
SATW is making available around €800,000 towards the project from its resources and plans to continue to support the school over the coming years. Our dream is to also work in other similar school projects in Ghana. Do please help us to achieve our ambitions with this fund raising challenge by donating whatever you can, either online to the “just giving” website below or by sending a cheque addressed to “Schools Across The World” to Marie Rees here at Cushman & Wakefield.
