Many of us have either been personally affected or touched or we know some who has been affected by Cancer.  These are a few statistics about the dreaded C word:
- There are more than 200 different types of cancer
- There are more than a quarter of a million new cases of cancer diagnosed each year in the UK, meaning that every two minutes someone else is diagnosed with cancer in the UK
- More than 1 in 3 people will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime
- Four types of cancer (breast, lung, bowel and prostate) account for over half of all new cases each year
- About two thirds of cancer cases are diagnosed in the over 65s. Only around one per cent of cancers occur in children, teenagers and young adults

When we are touched by cancer, it is the support organisations around us that really make a difference in very difficult circumstances.

On Saturday,  I will be joining six of my fellow workers to walk 13 miles in aid of our local hospice - Ashgate Hospice.  Each year, Ashgate needs to raise over £3 million to provide the quality of individual clinical care and support services to which they are committed. The major part of this is provided through the generous support of people like you.

Every donation helps patients and families at Ashgate Hospice:
£5 can help provide materials for an art class
£15 can help to stock their gardens with beautiful plants
£35 can help towards a session of physiotherapy
£65 can help pay for their minivan to collect and return day patients each day
