I am running the York Marathon to help the lovely people of Nepal, after the devastating Earthquake hit the country on April 25th, 2015. Although this has disappeared from the news, the Country is still struggling to get back to normal. Schools have been destroyed, homes and many of the Mountain Villages have suffered dreadful loses. Some of these small villages are still impassable by track, and help and medical equipment difficult to get through.
Although the Nepalese are resourceful, the conditions in the villages are still very bad, not helped of course by the Monsoons that followed the Earthquake. Many children have been left, without family, homes and schools. The temporary schools, are little more than tents.
CAN (Community Action Nepal) is raising money to rebuild Schools, and trying to help the Community get back to the lovely Country that Nepal is. Anyone who has visited the amazing Country of Nepal, will have the same love and affection for the people and Country of Nepal that I have.
I stayed and lived with a family in Nepal. Although they have very little of the everyday luxuries that we take for granted, they are happy with their lives and are very proud of their Country. Nepal depends on Tourism and Trekking for survival. Many of the Treks have reopened. The Langtang Valley, which is one of the nicest Treks I have done is still cut off. One of the villages we stopped at, has been totally devastated.
I have been struggling with my training for my Marathon. Knowing that I am running for the smiley-faced children of Nepal, and helping to re-build Schools and homes, I know I will achieve my goal. With your help and support, lets put the smile back on these children's face.
