For those of you who know me, you'll all be aware of 'The new found me' and i'm sure you will all agree, that i am a totally different person to the 'old shelly' that you were all so fond of !!!

For those of you who are not sure what i'm talking about.......i will fill you in..........here goes

I was always a chubby child, and a 'not so slim' teenager, i loathed exercise to the point that the school teachers took it for granted that i would be taking a note to excuse me from PE twice a week!!

As i met my early 20's, i also met 18st on the scales (not a pretty sight !)

A chocoholic to the core, 40 fags a day, and a drinker of lots of cider (i never counted how much...my abacus hasn't got that many beads !!)

And then it happened.....something clicked in my little brain which started my ambition to lose weight and get fit.

and so here i am, 7st 7lb lighter and feeling fantastic.

I'm lucky to be here to tell my tale, i'm sure it wouldn't have been long until i exploded!

Joking apart, i am lucky, and so are the many thousands of people who rely on charity's such as Trauma Care every year.

Victims of trauma receive care and attention from many individuals within a wide range of specialities and professional backgrounds. In the UK, 17,000 deaths each year are a direct result of injuries.

Trauma Care aims to improve the outcome of the trauma victim by establishing best practice throughout the whole chain of care. They achieve this through education, research and publishing.

The Trauma Care charity have given me something many thousands of people try and get each year.....the opportunity to do the London Marathon. I for one, will do everything in my power to not let them down.............will you? ..........

............GREAT, that's sorted then, get your credit cards out!!

Thanks all, watch this space.......i will keep you all updated on my journey.

As promised....here is a little update

Well i have completed week 4 of my training now and am feeling really good, here is what i have done so far

Week 1 - 1 x 5 mile, 2 x 6 mile, 1 x 10 mile

Week 2 - 1 x 5 mile, 2 x 6 mile, 1 x 11 mile

Week 3 - 2 x 5 mile, 1 x 6 mile, 1 x 7 mile, 1 x 12 mile

Week 8 - 1 x 6 mile, 1 x 8.5 mile, 1 x 16 mile, 2 x 45 minute weights sessions

Smashin ! another week done. Another lovely long run in the countryside on Saturday, i will admit, i did find it a bit of a struggle at about 8 mile, but that was my own fault for not taking in an energy gel earlier.....i'll know better next time. I stuck with it though, and soon got over my blip, the next blip was someone elses fault.....they got lost and never provided me with water at mile 12, so i had to wait until mile 14 before i got watered again. The last 2 mile were great, and i still managed to do a sprint finish for the last few hundred metres. No aches or pains and the new trainers were great.....job done.

Week 9 - 1 x 5 mile, 1 x 6.5 mile, 1 x 9 mile, 1 x 18 mile, 1 x 1hr weights session, swim = 60 lengths

Very easy to summarise this week........FANTASTIC !!, all runs have felt great, 18 mile was easier than i thought it would be. My feet have never been my best asset, having bunion operations on both feet at the age of 18 proves that, but they really are making me feel proud at the moment (even if they are ugly !!)

Week 10 - 1 x 5 mile, 1 x 6 mile, 1 x 10 mile, 1 x 20 mile (race @ Stafford) 1 x hr weights

Well.....was having a great week, Stafford 20 mile (sub 4hrs) i managed in 3hrs 18mins and was expecting 3:30 so that was good, weather was great, race was reasonably difficult as there were 3 laps, and a 1.5 mile hill to start each lap !! The problem started Monday evening following the race, i found i had a very painful foot.......(oh no not now please)

Week 11 - swim, swim, swim, swim, swim, weights & more swimming.........still a dodgy foot, so Dr's orders to rest up for this week and just stick to swimming, Dr also ordered to go in the gym next week and use x-trainer or get on my bike instead of running this will keep the fitness levels up......looks like some muscle damage to the foot but he wants me to make sure it's nothing more sinister like a stress fracture (he's a runner too so i trust his him !)

At least i get weekend off tho ay?

Week 12

I have been a good girl, and done as Dr ordered, worked hard in Gym, used X-trainer & bike lots, have cycled to & from gym on some days too. Also done some swimming and lots of rowing.

Week 13

Foot / Ankle starting to get better now, had a 3mile treadmill run on Monday (just to test it out), 5 mile on Wednesday (this felt ok too, a little bit of aching in ankle after though). Am keeping to shorter runs this week combined with some hard gym work as i really don't want to be causing any more damage at this stage...........it's only 3 weeks away!!!
