Story

Thank You for visiting our Justgiving page! :)

Our team of 15 will be climbing The Three Peaks in August to raise money for the VSO Charity (the largest volunteer charity in the world! For further info please go to www.vso.org.uk)

The team started from the comapny networking group, SPN, recruiting 15 strangers from across Skanska UK. To accomplish this challenge, not only will we have to undergo sleep deprivation and mental-physical endurance but also navigate, pull together and get along with one another as a team!

This will not be easy for our team, with the challenge involving 23miles of climbing the 3 highest UK peaks and over 400miles driving the time limit of 24hours doesn't sound like enough time!

We will begin in the morning in Scotland at the foot of Ben Nevis (1344m) before travelling to the Lake District and taking on Scafell Pike (978m) through the night and finally donwn to Wales and takling Snowdon (1085m) in the early hours.

The Challenge will take place on the 1st - 2nd August 2009 and we have a  target of £10,000 to raise so please help us with whatever you can!! If you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in 'Gift Aid', plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation - every penny helps!

Thank you for time!!

The SPN Pub Quiz to raise money for our challenge took place last night, Thurs 23rd of April at The George Inn Pub (Old Bar). Attendees had a buffet on arrival and after everyone had filtered into the function room, all present divided into 6 teams to compete for the respect, the pride, bragging rights and of course prizes! The battle raged over 10 rounds. The scores were very close, but in the end the 'Lean Mean Skanska Machine' came out on top. Well done to them! Will there be another quiz to see if the LMSM can hold onto their title as SPN quiz champs? We shall see!

Proceeds from the quiz are going towards our cause (VSO) as you will know and we raised £165. Not bad at all! With everyone in generous spirits, the night was a great success, my favourite part being the impromptu auctioning of a very stylish Skanska T-shirt that prompted a bidding war, which once concluded, added a very respectable £21 to the proceeds!

Many thanks go to the SPN Core team for organising the venue and quiz, particularly Cela Gallagher for some truly fantastic questions, rounds and for her auctioneering prowess. Did you know that the biggest American city by poplulation is New York? Well you do now!

CAKE AT MAPLE CROSS! 30th April '09, The teams descend on Skanskas' head office for the first 3 peaks meeting, with great success. Teams, practise days and fundraising were all tabled and agreed, followed by a half hour harrassing the deep pockets at MX house.. over their lunch! We sold a total of 26 cakes, for 50p each and raised... £70?! I'm no mathematician but...... Good news either way, please see the fun and photos to the left!
