We are there when it matters to support people through dying or grief.

Story

Sue Ryder has been delivering incredible care for people with life-changing illness across the UK for over 60 years and each year, provides end of life care for over 16,000 people and their families, enabling them to make the most of the time they have left. We provide this care in our hospices, neurological centres, services in the community and in people’s homes – helping to ensure that more people can spend their last days in comfort and peace, surrounded by those they love. Sue Ryder, Thorpe Hall Hospice has been providing incredible end of life care and support to patients and their families in Cambridgeshire, parts of Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland for more than 20 years. In that time, staff and volunteers have had to work in a building with serious limitations which impact on them and those they care for. Those challenges - including shared bedrooms and bathrooms, limited access outside and endless staircases - and more will be addressed in the new state-of-the-art in patient unit now being built in the grounds of Thorpe Hall. The bespoke, one storey building will ensure the care Thorpe Hall is renowned for will continue for generations to come, in surroundings that are fit for purpose. It will also enable the organisation to introduce new services working within the community so more people than ever can access the care and support they need at such a difficult time. The doors of the new hospice are set to open in the summer. But to keep the project on track fundraising must continue. Our £6 million target is a big one, but with continuing support from the community we can achieve it. Head of Thorpe Hall’s fundraising Lucy Squance said: “We have a very exciting year ahead of us at Thorpe Hall as we look to open our new in-patient unit and introduce new services into the community. “That makes this the perfect year for us to team up with Vericool Sports Management as they bring this brand new cycling challenge to East Anglia. We’re hoping to get some of our key supporters to saddle up and hop on their bikes as well as welcoming elite riders from around the country to the Thorpe Hall fold to raise as much money as possible to support our new hospice appeal.” Contacts: Jo Killick Senior Hospice Fundraiser Telephone: 01733 225995 Email: jo.killick@suerydercare.org Website: www.thorpehall.org
