Thanks so much for visiting my donating page. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: RNLI - Royal National Lifeboat Institution - gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
My team of 8 sails on 18 October from the Falkland Islands across 750 miles of the South Atlantic and Southern Ocean to South Georgia. Once on land, we will retrace the exact route Sir Ernest Shackleton, together with Tom Crean and Frank Worsley, took in 1916 across the backbone of mountains and glaciers that run the length of South Georgia. We will also attempt to scale some previously unclimbed summits on the island.
Whilst we can never repeat the full achievement of Shackleton's rescue mission, nor the sense of hopelessness and lack of contact with the outside world, we can try to understand what he achieved and the rigours of his epic journey across "high peaks, impassable cliffs, steep snow slopes and sharply descending glaciers with hidden ravines". At the same time we will be raising awareness of this unique and precious environment, which is one of the most important wildlife areas in the world.
Shackleton's heroic rescue, a testament to courage, determination, leadership and teamwork, is the inspiration for this expedition. It is a tremendous life challenge for all of us. You can find out all about us and follow our progress at www.beyondendurance.co.uk.
So please sponsor me now! Your donation will save lives at sea and will be hugely appreciated. Thank you again.
Kind regards, Stephen
